NHS & Essential Workers Retreat at Tofte
Awe-Inspiring and Humbling Service
To witness the incredible work by the NHS and Essential Services in 2020 has been both awe-inspiring and humbling. These incredible people have worked selflessly throughout this pandemic with no time or thought for themselves. We have all shown appreciation with clapping on Thursdays and cheerful morale boosting rainbows in windows, but more needed to be done.
Changing People's Lives Through the Power of Retreats
Jools Sampson of Reclaim Your Self Retreats and a regular user of Tofte Manor has seen people's lives change through the power of her retreats. She realised that she could use her skills, experience and connections to create a truly special NHS Gift Retreat that would give something precious back to these tireless workers. So lockdown for Jools was spent organising an extraordinary event and making it happen!
She immediately knew Tofte Manor was the perfect healing sanctuary to host this event and approached Suzy Castleman, the owner of Tofte Manor, who willingly gave the use of her beautiful home and grounds on a nonprofit basis.
Heart-Warming Stories of Poignancy and Hope
Word went out and Jools received over 150 stories of commitment to duty; compassion for others and personal sacrifices from doctors, nurses, cleaners, paramedics, care home staff and social workers. Within a couple of weeks, 55 generous donors had contributed enough for the retreat to happen! At the same time, a truly fabulous selection of professional chefs, yoga teachers, meditation teachers and healers, who believed in the value of the project generously volunteered their services for free.
Our Turn to Give Back
On 30th September until 2nd October our special group of exhausted heroes were able to come to Tofte Manor for some much deserved respite and rebuilding.
"So we gave them everything we had"
The guests were nourished on every level with relaxing yoga, healing sessions, facials, breath work, meditation, labyrinth walks, delicious food, luxurious accommodation and time to wander the peaceful grounds or to just curl up on a sunny window seat.
All Delivered with Huge Empathy, Love and Laughter
Many a tear was shed by the guests and team, but mostly a lot of laughter was shared.
After two nights and three days with us, the guests left looking more relaxed, brighter-eyed having relieved some of their burden and received the tools to take care of themselves going forward.
Everyone involved felt honoured to have been part of this particularly beautiful bubble and wish all these remarkable people strength, health and heartfelt gratitude.
What Happens Next?
Hopefully the NHS and Essential workers will go back feeling stronger, optimistic and filled with the warmth of new friendships and self-worth. They have been asked to in turn to nominate more people in their industry who could benefit from a break at Tofte.
This NHS Gift Retreat has undoubtedly been a huge success. The next retreat is planned for 2-4th March 2021! The target is to raise £3000 for the next retreat. If you feel you could donate any amount to help fund this fantastic project to help more essential workers, then please:
Health Precautions. Great care went into ensuring that Tofte Manor was Covid safe. It was equipped with temperature checks, sanitisers, social distancing and the crew all wore masks and protective clothing wherever needed. None of these health precautions dampened the very cheerful atmosphere!
Sponsors and Gifts! We have been blown away by the kind generosity of companies who have donated wonderful gifts for our guests! Abel & Cole sponsored most of the food and drink for the retreat. Full list of suppliers, facilitators and sponsors can be found HERE.
